Organic in Conversion

You are likely to see this label on some of our Fairtrade certified products. On some of the farms that our cotton is grown, more and more farmers are converting to organic methods every year. While most of the cotton may be certified a proportion may still be going through the certification process.

Although farming organically and meeting the high standards it still takes a number of years before organic certification can take place. This can be a particularly hard time for these farmers. While in principle they meet the criteria, their crop levels may reduce and they do not get the higher premium price of organic cotton.

By supporting these farmers during the transition period we believe we are supporting all the principles we are striving to achieve with the added bonus of helping those farmers “making the change”.
