Ink and EthicsWe use water based inks for our printing which is phthalates and PVC free. They are suitable for use on baby clothes and childrens wear and are certified to Oeko-tex 1 standard. We currently use Aqua water-based textile screen printing ink. It is free of any volatile solvents and contains no ozone depleting chemicals, (as described in the Montreal Convention); it is free from aromatic hydrocarbons; and it is formulated to be free from any chemicals toxic to health. As it is formulated free from lead and other heavy metals and meets the requirements of the EN71-3: 1995 Toy Safety Standards. Naturally dyed garments and printOur famous naturally dyed garments use plants and herbs to colour the fabrics. This process uses ancient techniques for which Indian textiles are historically renowned for.
Pomegranate skin is used to create a warm orange dye Coffee, tea, pomegranate, madder, henna and many other plants are used to colour the fabrics. Not only are the garments dyed naturally but the designs printed on the fabrics use plants and herbs also. We manufacture to order aprons, tea towels, t shirts, robes, towels and bags using this method. The Eden Project and City Eco Hotel are among our clients. On a recent visit to our suppliers in India we visited The Calico Textile Museum in Ahmedabad. Filled in every nook and cranny with examples of the history of textiles, stitching and dyeing. A truly fascinating, idiosyncratically run, world class Indian museum. Absolutely worth a visit if you are lucky enough to be in the area. www.calicomuseum.com |
